What's Your Style?

One of my favorite decades (regarding fashion) is the 1950s. I wasn't there but I trust that the images I've seen from television, movies and magazines are a accurate representation of how people dressed. I love seeing ladies in nice dresses for all occasions, from shopping at the grocery store to teaching in a classroom or running a company. I'm sure people dressed down then, but they didn't seem to leave the house without a nice outfit.
I love to dress every time I go somewhere. Styling myself allows my creativity to flow and I enjoy pulling together unique looks. I believe that my clothes help me to make good first impressions. People are given insight into who I am just by observing my style.
Clothes don't make the man but a person sure can make the clothes. I don't think that people who prefer to dress casually as often as they can are wrong; I just like fashion. And I like that you don't have to spend a fortune to be fashionable. You should purchase good quality, flattering clothes that work for your body. You can find great clothes at thrift stores, the mall, retail shops, boutiques, outlets and even online. I don't do massive shopping sprees to build and refresh my wardrobe. I find statement pieces and staples one or two items at a time and bring them into my closet . Then, I stand in my closet and think about what I have and come up with combinations that stand out.
Sometimes people don't dress because they feel like it is time consuming. Some people don't feel like putting in the work to coordinate looks or shop their closet. A person might not be in the mood to dress. I believe that dressing helps me boost my mood. I believe your attire affects your behavior and actions. There are certain things I will not do in certain clothes. A nice outfit lifts my head, straightens my posture, and gives me confidence.
What is your viewpoint on the importance of style? Do you have your own style that expresses who you are or is your appearance dictated by what fits and what's clean? What style do you wish you could wear and how far are you from walking in that style?
